The "Text to Columns" option crashes Excel 2013/2010 on an attempt to modify a column that contains text and numbers

Steps:

1) Download the "Book12.xlsx" file from here and open it in Excel 2013

2) Select the "A" column

3) Go to "Data" and choose "Text to Columns"

4) Click "Finish"

Excel 2013 will crash. Excel 2010 will crash after the same actions + Undo.

Hi,

I have tested with the sample file, it worked well and Excel 2010/2013 did not crash. Thus, I recommend you collect the event log and provide us with the whole error messages of event log.

Steps of collecting event log:

Open Event Viewer to check whether there's any error about the Excel/Word crash issue.

Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter. In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, there may be some errors after the crash.

Please try to collect this event log and post the whole event log message here. I can get more information about your issue from this message and help you solve it.

If you wonder to post a screenshot but you have no verified to post the screenshot, I suggest you upload the screenshot via OneDrive.

Or you could send this screenshot to our email address:

ibsofc@microsoft.com I'd like to help you check it.

Please Note: The email subject you should use the URL or the Title Name of your case.

Regards,

George Zhao
